TRAGUS TO WALL MEASUREMENT (TWD)

The Tragus Measurement Tool was originally designed for use to ankylosing spondylitis patients who have changes to their spines. It is very useful for a posture correction objectives measurement in conditions such as Parkinsons.

The distance measured correlates with the changes to the cervical spine. The only equipment needed is a tape measure.

The distance measured is the horizontal distance between the right tragus and a wall. It is repeated for the left tragus.

Instruct the person to stand with their heels and buttocks against the wall, knees to be extended, shoulders back and the chin should be tucked in.

Measure from the wall to the tragus each side

Then measure from the wall to the mid axillary line on the trunk

Allow plus or minus 3 cm of this measure for optimal postural range.

Exercises and postural corrections can be carried out then the measurements repeated.
