Home Visit Neuro-Physiotherapy Services

We are all aware that the Health service struggles to provide on-going support to patients with long term chronic conditions. We find patients have been left to manage their own condition. Neuro-Physiotherapy is a specialism within physiotherapy that focuses on the rehabilitation of stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, brain tumours, cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease, muscular dystrophy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome and many other conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and nerves.

After an injury to the brain such as a bleed or car accident the body is unable to grow new brain cells. The recovery is dependent on your brains ability to re-organise the healthy undamaged cells, this is called neuroplasticity.

Physiotherapists specialise in facilitating this following injury, helping the brain make new connections and pathways to promote recovery of the body, arm or leg movement.

Physiotherapists are experts at rehabilitation. Our physiotherapists have undergone specialist Bobath training and will integrate this approach effectively into their clinical practice.

Neuro-Physiotherapy Treatment Plans

Due to the complexity of neurological conditions an in-depth assessment of your motor, sensory and cognition is required to formulate an accurate clinical picture. Based upon this we will formulate a treatment plan specific to your needs and based on your personal targets you wish to reach. Following your assessment, a course of treatment sessions will be planned with your goals and aims in mind. This will consist of one to one time with our physiotherapist, exercise plans for you at home and advice for family and carers.

During your sessions we use different techniques, gait retraining, balance work, functional arm and hand retraining. Equipment may be used such as gym balls, steps, TheraBand, specialist equipment such as the functional electrical stimulation bikes (F.E.S). Standing frames may be used if you have been given access to them following your injury. It maybe we feel you would benefit from specialist equipment to assist you with daily exercise regimes; this will be discussed during treatment sessions.
