From small beginnings …
I started my business in 2000 whilst working at a large teaching hospital in London. Life was busy fitting in NHS works, my continued professional development and private patients. It became clear there was a specialist area of physiotherapy not covered by fellow colleagues – highly specialist physiotherapy provided in peoples’ own homes. All patients I see have a thorough ‘hands on’ assessment. The aim is to provide some treatment and advice within the Initial assessment. I feel strongly that our assessments should continue to be 45mins-1 hour and never to move to 20-30 minutes like other physiotherapy clinics. To continue my beliefs from my post graduate training to provide a long enough session to enable the patient to work and benefit. The ultimate result is that they have achieved a personal goal within that session.
Life in London changed and we decided to move to Essex. I set up my life, career and business in the large town of Chelmsford. Essex is a wonderful place to live, very different to how the media portrays it.
Where do we cover?
Our referrals come by word of mouth and reputation, patients self- referring also from fellow medical professionals. Our rising reputation has led to an increased demand for our services. Originally covering just Chelmsford and the local villages, we now have a 10 member strong team covering a wider area. We visit Hornchurch, Romford, The Roding, High Easter, Dunmow, Colchester, Wivenhoe, Burnham on Crouch, Maldon, South Woodham Ferrers, Southend, Brentwood, Ingatestone, Billericay. We even have a patient willing to travel from Northern Ireland to tap into our specialist services.
What are the benefits of Physiotherapy in your own home?
Your physiotherapist travels to your own home to provide expert medicinal professional physiotherapy and occupational therapy services. Our patients have told us that having one of our physiotherapists visit them at home is far more effective. This is because the programme is tailored within their home environment. Added bonuses are they did not have to worry whether they would be late for their appointment or where they would park. Anxiety and loss of time is eliminated with a home visit. Due to some surgical or medical conditions patients cannot drive. Visiting a clinic requires them to ask a neighbour or relative to drive them or the added expense of a taxi.
What conditions do we support at home?
Treatment is available for a variety of conditions: from respiratory complaints, to those requiring physiotherapy after surgery; orthopaedic, abdominal or neurosurgery. We see patients with long term conditions such as dementia, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis. Our caseload also consists of traumatic brain injury patients; stroke patients, head injury. We provide a comprehensive assessment for those elderly patients who start to feel weak or unsteady. Those who have become nervous about walking as well as patients that have fallen.
My business is thriving and I am very proud of my team who offer such a personal service to our patients. To make an appointment please telephone 01245 377118 (answerphone available). Alternatively, email us at [email protected]
